Why we built it

Running client work means juggling proposals, projects, invoices and payments across spreadsheets and inboxes. We built FreelanceOS to run our own operations — and as a reference architecture for the client portals we build.

Product

Full management of clients, projects, invoices with line items, and payments.
Invoice numbers generated per year (INV-YYYY-####) with automatic GST and discount totals.
PDF invoices generated on the server, including a scannable UPI QR code for instant payment in India.
Invoices switch to “Paid” automatically when recorded payments reach the total.
A public, read-only lookup where clients find their invoices by phone or invoice number.
Dashboard with revenue and project-status charts, activity feed, CSV export and dark mode.

Engineering

A Node.js and Express API on a normalised MySQL schema. Invoice and payment writes run inside database transactions; authentication uses JWT in httpOnly cookies with hashed passwords; inputs are validated on every endpoint, and an activity log records every change for audit.
